Ten days ago, I celebrated 5 years with “No Evidence of Disease” (NED)—a medical term signifying that cancer was no longer detectable in my body. Isn’t it amazing how time flies!
Looking back now, I see my cancer experience as a blessing in disguise. Why? Because from it has flowed my enjoyment of the abundant life that Jesus promised to those who love him. I now enjoy optimal spiritual, mental, physical, and relational health. More so, I feel much healthier today than I did before my diagnosis. Talk about beauty from ashes. I have documented all this in my soon to be released book, Zoë Integrative Wellness—Optimal Health through the life of God. This book introduces a framework that you can adopt to also enjoy sustainable optimal health.
Being diagnosed of a disease shouldn’t necessarily be interpreted as bad news. First, the diagnosis gives you the opportunity to treat the disease, thereby reducing the chances of a sudden death situation. Secondly, it’s a unique opportunity that can springboard you into a more wholesome life. It’s all about the perspective you take. Indeed, even if you are not able to obstruct the lemons that life throws at you, how you respond to them is within your control. So, what do you make with your lemons? Do they make you bitter or better?
Over the last few years, I have enjoyed a deeper relationship with God and I’m learning more than ever how loving and compassionate He is toward us. It irks Him that we have to experience the pains of this life—sickness, disease, suffering, and death among others. However, He sometimes allows these situations to happen to us so that our hearts are stirred toward Him and to enable us to focus on heavenly things rather than earthly things. Living with this perspective can fill your heart with peace and joy, and will empower you with self-control and love—all of which promote living in your best health.
So my dears, please rejoice with me as I celebrate 5 years of NED, not so much because the cancer has been gone for five years but because I am now more confident about the perfect health I will enjoy when I take a bow and leave this earth.
How about you? What is your perspective about sickness and disease, and how do you respond to it? Please share with me in the comment section below.
